Movies have been around for a very long time, and they have come a very long way from what they originally were. I personally love to watch movies because they are like an escape from reality. They provide entertainment in so many different ways. From thrillers to love stories to horror movies, the level we are entertained doesn’t change no matter what type of movie it is. Whatever someone is in the mood to watch they have that ability to. I think that it is very interesting to look at how much movies have changed over time because it is such a great difference.
One example of movies changing would be cartoons. If you watch one of the older Disney movies and compare it to a newer movie the difference is amazing. It is clear that the technology has come so far. Another example would be the difference in special effects in action, adventure movies. The explosions, war scenes, and every aspect of them has come so far and is now so realistic. The difference from what movies were and what movies are is quite obvious to anyone really. However, now we are moving into whole new area of movies, 3-D. it seems like every movie that comes out now, or at least most, have both regular and 3-D as an option. 3-D movies are again an amazing example of how far technology has come. I just wonder where we will be going next. It is interesting to look at the history of movies simply because of the huge leaps they have made. If we keep going on this track then who knows how we will be watching movies in ten years.
This is a really interesting point Trisha. Movies really have come such a far way...I remember watching Titanic the other day, such a classic, and thinking that they could redo it with such amazing special effects now adays. The director of the Titanic, James Cameron, actually had to wait years before he could create Avatar because he had to wait for the special effects technology to develop..and his waiting definitely paid off. Even though I think all movies are enjoyable, when you go to an IMAX theater and watch a movie in 3D where the characters are extended from the screen and your seat vibrates...it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. It will be interesting to see how this trend continues. I know my dad is looking into getting a 3D television for our home, but is waiting for Sony to perfect it before he invests in one.
ReplyDeleteTrisha, i believe that you raise a very interesting both. Just recently i saw both Toy Story 3D and Jackass 3D, and i must admit that seeing a film in IMAX or 3D makes the experience a lot better. I enjoy 3D movies and believe that they really get the audience involved in the action. I am very interested to see how much technology has advanced in the film industry in years to come
ReplyDeleteI really like this observation about the changing of movies, due to advanced technology and innovation. 3D movies are a perfect example of this, as they literally make the viewers a part of the media and making it feel like a reality. Creating this virtual experience for the viewer has been perfected by major players in the media industry such as Disney. At their parks they not only have 3D experiences but also 4D. This type of media not only has 3D movies, but also provides other effects to make the experience more believable and realistic. Wind, water, and bubbles are just some examples of what Disney may use to enhance the viewers experience and interaction with the media.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great point and I can't say I am a fan of the new trend towards 3D movies. I don't understand why people need to have some special effects jumping out at them to enjoy a movie. Often times movie have cheesy scenes that are specifically made for the 3D element and it takes away from the movie. For example, I am a fan of the Saw series and the new Saw movie coming out on halloween is going to be in 3D. But i will not see it because I am sure much of the movie will be filled with stupid effects of blood shooting or blades flying at the screen. It just gets to be too over the top.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about the whole 3D movies and I especially cannot wait until there will be 3D-TVs in everyone's house that can be watched without glasses. I believe the next step after that can only be smell and taste and possibly feeling included into the movie experience. I've already been to movie theaters were the seats started shaking or when it started raining in the movie, small sprinklers went on. So in my opinion the next logical step for technology will be smell and/or taste for everyone at home, even though I am not sure if that experience will be very enjoyable for certain movies.
